Suffering from a disability or injury can be a very stressful and sometimes traumatic experience, especially if it interferes with a person's ability to live a normal life. We often take things for granted, such as the ability to earn an income, carry out household chores, play with our children or even do our own shopping. The disruption of our everyday lives as a result of an injury or disability can be very unsettling. In most cases people learn to overcome the disruption and inconvenience of a disability and carry on with their everyday lives. In some cases an individual may exaggerate the extent and severity of an injury or disability for financial gain.
A period of discrete surveillance is often utilized in an effort to document an individual's daily routine and activity level. A clear and factual report is normally accompanied by video tape and/or photographic evidence. This information can be used to help substantiate a person's injury or shed some light on the fact that they may be exaggerating the severity of their condition.
