A preliminary investigation/activity check would normally include a confirmation of the Claimant's residence and a visit to the immediate area. A brief period of surveillance may determine if the Claimant is away early in the day or late evening. A visit to the area would assist in determining relevant vehicles to the residence and the Claimant. It could be determined that only one vehicle is associated to the residence and the Claimant’s spouse takes this vehicle to work. In a situation like this any future surveillance should include a weekend when the Claimant would have more access to the vehicle.
It might also determine what degree of difficulty may be expected, should a future surveillance be requested, (i.e. A subdivision with two or more possible exits or an apartment building).
A visit to the area of the Claimant’s residence might also suggest evidence of other sources of income, (i.e. New vehicles, recreational vehicles, home renovations, etc.). It is not uncommon for a Claimant to have returned to work, changed jobs or become self employed by starting a business and not reported this.
A normal budget for an activity check in any one of our Operating Areas would be $1,000.00 - $1,200.00 plus H.S.T.
